“These are amazing!” Ashley said as she held up the swathes of fall leaves, pine cones, and red-colored ivy woven into swags.

Rosemary smiled. “Glad you like them, and even more grateful that you asked for them. I’ve had a stream of people coming in for fall wreaths and garlands since I started making them. Business is booming.”

“Yeah,” Michael said. “And we get to use up the trimmings from some of the plants too.”

“Waste not, want not,” Rosemary said.

“You wouldn’t believe what I’ve learned about plants and how to look after them since I started working here,” Michael said. He held up a part of the garland between his fingers. “Like this… the ivy… who knew it turned this red?”

“Rosemary,” Gabby replied with a chuckle. Michael smiled. “But it’s great to know that you’re not only enjoying the job but learning stuff too.”

Michael grinned. “If it wasn’t for Mrs. Hart, I might still be stuck doing something I hate just to help Mom with the bills while I’m still in school.”

“And if it wasn’t for Michael,” Rosemary said, “I’d never have gotten all these done on time. He’s a whizz with florist wire.”

“Well, I thank you both,” Ashley said. “Let’s load these up, and I’ll get them down to the ranch so we can work out exactly where to put them.”

She began to lift the garlands carefully next to the little counter at the side of the nursery barn, with Rosemary helping her. She backed up and almost tripped up over Rosemary’s orange cat, Marmalade.

“Whoa, careful there, Garfield.” Gabby scooped up the cat into her arms, giving him a smile. “We don’t want anyone falling over.” He meowed at her and twitched his tail. “Or maybe you do!”

Rosemary smiled. “Sorry, he’s been enjoying snoozing in the greenhouses where it’s warm. I almost forgot he was here with us.”

The door to the nursery opened, and they all turned to see David Prescott step inside. He glanced at them and frowned.

“You own the plant place?” he asked Rosemary.

“I do. Can I help you?” she asked.

Prescott sighed. “I guess. I need a couple of big plants, something that’s hard to kill.”

“Sure,” Rosemary replied, glancing at Gabby and Ashley. “I’m sure we can find something. Is this for indoors or outdoors?”

“Out,” he replied. “Something that looks decent. Apparently, the homeowner’s association thinks cut grass isn’t enough,” he scoffed with a sneer.

“Okay,” Rosemary said cheerily as she smiled again.

“I suppose you heard about my aunt,” he added.

“You asked for her to be exhumed,” Gabby said with a nod.

“Figures you’d know that. Yeah, I did. After all of you stopped by and showed me that coin. I figured maybe there is something to that story, and it got me thinking. I never believed it, but Tim did. If he thought he was going to lose his chance to find it, he’d probably kill the old broad.”

“So, you think he found out your aunt was going to will the house to the historical society and killed her to… what? Stop that?”

“Yeah,” David confirmed with a nod.
